Don’t Give Your Audience To Facebook!

Will it scare you if I tell you that the audience you’re building on your Facebook page isn’t really your audience?


You spend time researching a topic, outlining your content, creating your content, scheduling your content, and monitoring your content to make sure it’s performing well and engaging your audience.


Who are you doing this for? Facebook!


Facebook wants you to build an audience in your niche so others can advertise to them. You build it, and they get paid for it.


Smart Facebook. Smart.


However, to be clear, this doesn’t mean you can’t get paid from building an audience on Facebook. You can, and you should monetize your audience if you have a product or service your audience needs.


However, if you really want to own an audience, collect their information first before you hand it over to Facebook.


How? Collect their emails.


Many businesses have found success using email marketing to generate more sales and build their social media channels. In this post, I will give you two reasons you need to build your email list first before building your social media.

Reason 1: Everyone On Your List Gets Your Email.

Social media platforms such as Facebook only show what they deem to be relevant to the user. Sadly for us, business owners, Facebook prioritizes valuable interactions with family and friends over interactions with brands. This means that only a fraction of “our audience” will see our message on Facebook.


With email, you can almost guarantee that everyone you send an email to will get your email. This doesn’t mean everyone will read your email, however. Many people skim their inboxes look for what seems important and delete the rest. This is still good!


When you send an email, you’ll be sure that your reader will at least see your Subject Line and your Business Name because this is the small window they have to see what’s inside your email. This is good because it will remind them that your business still exists in this world.


Your name… your business… will be on their mind.


One day, when the stars align, you will send an email with a subject line that “clicks” with your reader, and boom your message is read… and then double boom, they buy your product or service. All because it was delivered and not hidden from them because daddy Facebook said so.

Reason 2: You Can Use Your Email List To Grow Your Social Media Channels.

Imagine sending an email to your audience that instantly increases your Facebook Likes and Video Views on your Facebook page.


You can with email.


Send your email audience an offer they can’t resist if they like your Facebook page. Give them something valuable in exchange for a simple Thumbs-Up click. Then, send them a screenshot of your amazing Cat Promo video and tell them to watch the secret you unveiled about cats on Facebook an hour ago.


Then, sit back and watch your Facebook page engagement grow after hitting the “Send” button.


You can use your email audience again to use these same strategies to grow other social media channels as well. The sky is the limit once you actually own your audience.


You now have two extra reasons to focus on building your email list before building your social media. (1) You can show a message to your audience whenever YOU want to, and (2) you can use your emails to grow your social media channels. You’re now ready to conquer the world with your business without worrying about giants such as Facebook limiting your potential reach.
